Contact Us

1. Do I need to be in shape to start Jiu-Jitsu?

Nope. You get in shape by training Jiu-Jitsu—not the other way around. Whether you’re starting from the couch or already active, we meet you where you’re at. All we ask is that you show up ready to learn.

2. What should I wear to my first class?

If you don’t have a gi (uniform) yet, wear comfortable athletic clothes—like a T-shirt and shorts or leggings. Avoid anything with zippers or buttons. We’ll guide you from there.

3. Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?

Yes. Our kids’ classes are designed with safety, structure, and discipline in mind. We teach them how to defend themselves responsibly while also learning respect, focus, and self-control.

4. What age can kids start training?

We have 2 kids programs. A 4-6 year old class and a class for ages 7–12. We focus on helping them build confidence, coordination, and character through fun, structured training.

5. Do I need any experience to join?

Not at all. Our Jiu Jitsu 101 class is built specifically for beginners—no background in martial arts required. You’ll learn everything step-by-step.

6. What’s a typical class like?

Each class includes a short warm-up, technique instruction, drilling, and controlled practice. Some classes include positional sparring or live rounds, depending on the level.

7. Is Jiu-Jitsu good for self-defense?

Absolutely. Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective self-defense systems in the world, especially for real-life situations where size and strength are factors. We focus on control, not striking.

8. How often should I train?

Consistency is key. For beginners, 2–3 days per week is a great place to start. Our class schedule gives you options without overwhelming your week.

9. What makes Black Diamond Grappling Club different?

We’re a locally owned, family-run gym built on real experience, structure, and a strong team atmosphere. Our training blends practical self-defense and sport Jiu-Jitsu, all taught with high standards and personal attention.

10. Do you offer a free trial?

We don’t offer free trials—and here’s why:

We put everything into making sure every student who steps on our mats gets real instruction, attention, and value from day one. This isn’t a watered-down sales pitch class. It’s the real thing, built for people who are serious about learning.

That said, we’re happy to answer your questions, let you check out the space, and talk through what to expect before you commit. If you show up ready to train, we’ll give you 100% in return.

11. Do you offer drop-in classes?

We don’t offer drop-ins at this time. Our classes are structured with a focus on progression, safety, and team culture. That means every student on the mat is part of a consistent training environment where we know each other’s experience level, learning pace, and goals.

This helps us maintain high-quality instruction and protects our students—especially kids and beginners—from mismatched or unpredictable training partners.

If you’re interested in training with us, we’d love to talk about getting you onboard the right way.
